Huawei Ark OS/HongMeng OS

As soon as the US restricted businesses from working with Huawei – seen by most as part of the continuing trade war with China – one of the names that surfaced was Google. With a prospective ban on future access to Android, focus swung to Huawei’s plan B – its own operating system.

In a report by Global Times, a British Language paper in China, Huawei’s HongMeng OS – perhaps to be called Ark OS when it comes to market – has been demonstrated and shown to be 60 per cent quicker than Android.

We would take this figure with a pinch of salt: there is nothing to qualify how that rate is measured and exactly what that might mean in real life terms.

Exactly what does Google ban mean for your Huawei phone?

What’s perhaps more interesting is the titles that appear to be getting involved. Presently, all these manufacturers use Google’s Android with their own products and services stacked on the top.

Between these 3 firms – Huawei, Oppo, Vivo – you have a massive slice of the Chinese market as well as international markets, notably in Asia.

HongMeng OS is reported to work with all of Android apps, but comprise increased alternatives for the protection of personal data.

Huawei is also supposedly encouraging program developers to utilize its own App Gallery, to supply an alternate avenue to Google’s Play Store.

Huawei had secured the second place in global smartphone imports – with only Samsung maintaining a lead – and it seems like the Chinese company has no intention of accepting the US ban lying down.

Development of an alternative to Android seems well underway. While that may be immediately approved in Asia, convincing western markets to proceed to another platform will be more of a challenge.

Currently, Huawei simply has support from Google before August – and with the Huawei Mate 30 in the pipeline, it’s going to be an interesting couple of months.
