BSNL eyes Rs 1,300 crore savings this fiscal after VRS becomes effective: CMD

NEW DELHI: State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) stated on Tuesday that as many as 78,569 staff have opted for VRS, and added that it expects to avoid wasting Rs 1,300 crore in wage bills this fiscal after the scheme turns into efficient in January.

“On the VRS (voluntary retirement scheme), on January 31, 2020, will probably be efficient. Our purpose is that individuals who have utilized for VRS, their utility needs to be thought-about and authorised…” BSNL Chairman and Managing Director P K Purwar informed reporters.

On merger with MTNL, Purwar stated discussions have began and boards of each the businesses have met on a standard platform.

“Our goal at this stage is network integration and operational synergies on which discussions have started,” he stated.

Since VRS will begin on January 31, 2020, the financial savings of Rs 1,300 crore will accrue to BSNL, for the rest of this monetary 12 months.

On the statutory dues of the company arising out of the latest SC verdict on adjusted gross income, Purwar stated, “We have requested the federal government that given financial stress state of affairs, the federal government can consider both reconsidering the dues or infusing fairness of equal quantity in BSNL to facilitate the fee.”
