A few days ago, Airtel changes Airtel TV app to Airtel Xstream. Now they plan to launch a few services & devices.
The telecom company(Airtel) is preparing to launch a brand new “Airtel Stick Bundle,” which contains a smart set-top-box and an Xstream stick that look like the Google Chromecast dongle.
A new article by Android-TV-Guide (via DreamDTH) casts some light on the upcoming devices & services. The Airtel Xstream Smart Box is made by Technicolor and supports Android 9 Pie.
The XStream Smart Stick by Airtel is promoted to feature a few plans. However, the customer will need to buy the plans separately. Airtel offers the service for free for a few customers who are eligible Postpaid, Broadband, and DTH plans.
A subscription is like to entitle the user to access content by HOOQ, Hoichoi, Eros Now, ALTBalaji, and Hungama with the Airtel Xstream app. Special note Zee5 subscriptions are packed separately.
It may be powered by a dual-core Broadcom BCM72604 B Chip that is covered with 2GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. There’s also the Broadcom VideoCore V HW (V3D-510) GPU for experience DTH, IPTV and OTT content with good quality.
Now come to the features of Airtel Xstream Smart Stick, it will be made by Skyworth which enables OTT broadcasting also. It is said to work on Android 8 Oreo and can use on the HiSilicon Hi3798M V300 quad-core SoC that is clocked at 1.2 GHz and is attached with an ARM Mali-450 GPU.
The stick offers 1GB RAM with 8GB storage. It can be connected to a TV via an HDMI cable port but not like as Chromecast or the newer Amazon Fire TV Sticks, it also needs external power. This stick can be controlled via a remote, which is told to come with a specific button to call up the Google Assistant support.
